This article studies the Municipal Casino of Vina del Mar, from 1927, when the project began to materialize, until the evaluation carried out after its first fifteen years of operation, during 1946. Its origins, its development, the reactions generated at the time of beginning its operations in its provisional space, and the consequences it generated for the city. Through a series of municipal and journalistic sources, in addition to bibliography, the letter addresses the appreciations, expectations and purposes that accompanied the construction of the casino, and it is stated that its realization aimed to provide Vina del Mar with a space for gambling regulated, similar to that of European spas, which would attract visitors and generate resources to beautify the city for tourism purposes, and meet the needs of the inhabitants of the commune. Finally, it is stated that this place met the objectives set, by generating such an amount of income that it allowed the Municipality to invest in social works, acquire cultural assets, and build infrastructure for tourism, which, as a whole, strengthened the image of spa that took over in the 20th century.
