This paper analyzes the services of the Drops of Milk of Valparaiso as reproducers of the modern medical discourse that pursued the diffusion of scientific maternity. From childcare education, its cooperators aimed at reducing infant mortality by reproducing and transmitting medical advice from the prominent voice of medicine between 1918 (foundation of the first Drop of Milk in the city) and 1944 (twenty-fifth anniversary of this institution). From the history of women and the review of institutional memories, minutes of the First National Congress of Drops of Milk and newspapers such as El Mercurio and La Union both of Valparaiso, the preventive and directed nature of their services is confirmed, which aimed at child protection, considering the mother-child binomial. Likewise, it is inferred from a local analysis that social management and the use of its spaces focused on the medicalization of food and the promotion of breastfeeding. Hence configuring milk as a food prescribed by the medical community capable of saving children from infectious diseases produced by their weak and malnourished bodies.
