The consolidation of new computer technologies aimed at music production has massified music creation. This has led many musicians to work independently, recording, producing, and managing their music from their own homes, which seems to have an impact not only on the economic dimension of music production activity but also on the lifestyles and subjective organization of these people. The emergence of this group of creators/producers in Chile has not been analyzed in the literature, so it seems relevant to characterize them and explore these new creative practices and their possible relationship with the construction of subjectivities that could be constituted as particulars of these actors. Thus, this article seeks to respond to two central objectives: first, to characterize multidimensionally musical producers who develop their creative work mainly from home studios. Second, it will seek to describe and analyze the distinctive musical creation practices of these actors and the possible emergence of new artistic subjectivities that could be related to these new musical creation practices. Two instruments were designed and applied for this: a survey and semi-structured interviews. The results suggest a certain homogeneity between these actors, in terms of socioeconomic and demographic variables. Something similar occurs concerning musical practices related to the formation, production, and distribution of content and the construction of common imaginaries.
