This chapter sums up the main theoretical and empirical findings about the causes and effects of the social outbreak over political representation in Chile. This book has shown that Chile’s October 2019 social outburst is the consequence of a series of unresolved problems following the return of democracy. The political and economic institutions inherited from the military dictatorship promoted an exclusionary development model, and an elitist political system detached from society. The sustained economic growth and political stability that characterized the country during the first decades of the twenty-first century hid a weakness in the Chilean political system: an acute inability to integrate and process the socio-political demands of the population and new emerging groups.
