We reflected on the concept of civil society in some geography schools in Chile, what we understand about it, its scope and limits. Thus, we approached a necessary discussion on a concept widely used in the social sciences, with a wide presence in the geographical literature, however, its explicit study so far has been limited in this literature. The research focused on an exclusively qualitative methodological proposal. It used qualitative content analysis techniques and an adaptation to the Delphi technique in its consultation with experts. It was evidenced that there is no explicit purpose in the uses of the concept of civil society, however, it is due to the little knowledge of it, in turn, there is a widespread claim that it is significant for geographical studies, hence the importance of building it from geography.
