Political psychology is a field of multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary studies of the social sciences, born in Europe at the beginning of the 20th century. Today, political psychology encompasses subjects of study ranging from the leadership of politicians, public policies, corruption, conflicts, political violence and terrorism, among others. In Chile, several authors identify the birth of political psychology in the late 1970s as a result of clinical psychology interventions in disorders caused by military dictorship. The present paper reviews and discusses these statements, postulating that one of its possible beginnings is in the work Balmaceda y el Parlamentarismo en Chile, a psycho-political and historical text of 1914, written by the politician and historian Ricardo Salas Edwards, who reports the Political-Military Conflict of 1891. In our work we present qualitative analyzes and evidences that support our assertion, marking this work as the first foundational effort of Chilean political psychology.
