In 2020 it will be fifty years since the coming to power of the Popular Unity government in Chile led by Salvador Allende. In its three years of revolutionary project, the discussion on cultural policies played a key role. Half a century later, Chile experienced a social outbreak in October 2019 that led to a radical questioning of the neoliberal model imposed during the military dictatorship on the one hand and, on the other, in a process for the elaboration of a new political constitution for the sake of replace the one imposed by Pinochet in 1980. This article makes an analysis of the cultural policies implemented in the Popular Unity in order to establish critical lessons to think about the ongoing constituent process.
