This article analyzes the intersection between waters and wandering elaborated by Mistral in three poems that focus on her years of life abroad and the effects of her physical distance from Chile: "Lago Llanquihue", "Bio-Bio" and "Beber"; all of them published in 1938. In coherence with her indigenist and Latin Americanist discourse, I propose to read these texts as expressions of the Chilean writer's decolonizing thought (Rivera Cusicanqui, 2018) and her special connection with the waters. This can be seen in the depiction of this life-giving element as a living and sacred "matter," as well as in the metaphorization of drinking as a ritual, which allows the poetic voice to reconnect with its indigenous roots and identify itself with the territory of the Americas.
