Increased computational power and ubiquity combined with growing computational literacy have enabled the unprecedented growth of knowledge in the world. To achieve such learning required changes in models of complex, dynamic, open, and concurrent systems, where, symbiotically, broader knowledge of computation enabled broader knowledge and better models of such systems. Having the capacity to innovate, learn, and accomplish more does not automatically lead to realization. New models, structures, and processes need to be developed. Emergent design is a theoretical framework for design of complex, dynamic systems and can be applied not only to design of software but also of surrounding processes to overcome limitations and errors from tree-like structures and linear processes. Models from nature such as rhizomes are particularly inspiring for better outcomes in complex, dynamic systems. Restructuring basic and university educational systems and better, more equitable outcomes can occur when we apply better models informed by computational fluency.
