The Band-bellied Owl (Pulsatrix melanota) is one of the less known Neotropical Strigiformes and up to now, no nesting records have been published. In July 2020, in a locality in the eastern foothills of the central Peruvian Andes, an active Band-bellied Owl nest, occupied by a chick and two adults, was found. The nest was located 6 m above the ground on the fork of a trunk of an Albizia carbonaria tree. The tree was approximately 17 m tall and 93.3 cm DBH, in a gently sloping hillside of a small ravine at 1,290 m a.s.l. The nesting tree was located only at 4 m from an often used road and 40 m from a small village. An agroforestry system of shade coffee and plantain plantations was dominant around the tree. In addition, based on information from other sites, we describe three other chicks, provide morphometric measurements of an adult, and notes on the diet of this little known owl.
