This article reviews a series of specific theoretical contributions related to poetry, fiction and fantastic perception in order to establish two particular theoretical propositions: to affirm a relationship between contemporary poetry and fiction, and to account for a particular link between poetic expression and the discourse of the fantastic. As an example, both contributions are made explicit considering an initial approach to the work of the Chilean poet Diego Maquieira.
