It is shown in the present chapter how causal contextualism can be applied to the problem of the causal exclusion of mental states. This problem is also considered as a way of approaching the problem of overdetermination. André Fuhrmann’s characterisation of causal exclusion and explanatory exclusion as two distinct arguments is presented. Assuming particularly different contexts of explanation, the explanatory exclusion argument is not problematic and overdetermination with regard to explanation is not really generated.
