During the last decade remarkable development has occurred in the field of new technologies for diabetes care. Continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion (insulin pumps) with new functions and integration with glucose sensors have been developed. Continuous glucose monitoring system which reports interstitial glucose levels in real time during 24 hours are commercially available. This article reviews the indications, clinical care and benefits of using technologies in diabetes, with a special focus in type 1 diabetes.
