This study aims to understand the ways in which Psychology, as a discipline in the school framework, understands working with children and adolescents. Based on a qualitative discursive study, we analyzed 37 referrals to a psychological care clinic belonging to a university, of children and adolescents, from schools that receive a state grant, which finances, among other things, professional psychologists. We analyze these referrals applying critical discourse analysis. Among the results we find 5 discourses of the discipline, where psychologists mostly rely on the deficit of the patients. We consider that this is a way to put to use a capital of recognition of patients to be cared for, assuming the context of focused spending where there are no universal rights.
