Seizures occurs in 20-40% of patients with brain tumors. Seizures are caused by the tumor because of involvement with the surrounding cortex or more distal areas and may respond to antiepileptic drugs or produce a chronic, intractable seizure disorder. Within tumor pathology the slow growing neoplasms are more associated with chronic epilepsy, in gangliogliomas and dysembrioplastic neuroepithelial tumors usually seizure is the only symptom. The MRI is mandatory in epilepsy in order to find structural lesions especially in focal epilepsy. Around 30% of all patients with surgical treatment of refractory epilepsy have neoplastic lesions as histopathological findings and the seizure control in this group is more than 70% in the long follow up.
