The impacts of the Industrial Revolution 4.0 on public administration seem inevitable. The preparation of institutions, the political elite and civil society to face these new challenges should be a priority path for Latin America. It is argued that for these changes to be substantive, the bureaucracy, politics and civil society must be involved. The objective of this essay is to analyze the main problems that need to be considered in order to advance in the implementation of the industrial revolution 4.0 in public administration, identifying the main tensions and scenarios that could be expected in the future of Latin America. The methodology used was a bibliographic review on the main components and implications of the Industrial Revolution 4.0 and its implementation in public institutions in the region. During its development, scenarios are presented on how it could be implemented and some tensions that could potentially be provoked considering the institutional weaknesses, the social context and the poverty characteristics of our reality. The main conclusion is that this context represents an opportunity to restore the value of politics and the public in the production of public policies together with the people and deepening democracy.
