The presence, institutional and social place, and diversity of the Protectors of Indians or Natives in the long eighteenth century (1700-1821) of Chile is studied through various judicial proceedings in lawsuits for insults and other types of cases. It distinguishes the history of the trade, knowing its particularities, dependencies, hierarchies, and denominations. Finally, there are many names of the subjects who took responsibility for the representation and defense of the Indians in different Chilean justice forums between 1700 and 1821. This study offers an initial panorama to reflect on the existence and trajectory of this poorly known function of Chilean colonial justice.
