The article presents the psychometric analysis of the parental practices scale of the Family Educational Strategies Questionnaire, created by the authors within the context of a larger research project. The design involved a nonprobability convenience sample which comprised 408 parents of 1st to 4th grade students attending 7 schools in Santiago, Chile (28% public schools, 42% subsidized private schools, 30% private schools). The analyses performed show that the parental practices scale has high levels of internal consistency as measured by Cronbach's alfa; however, according to confirmatory factor analyses, it is not organized according to the 3 factors proposed theoretically: educational practices at home, participation practices in informal activities, and participations practices in formal school organizations. This evidence can contribute to furthering the study of parental practices and their association with school learning and educational inequality between primary school students from different socioeconomic groups.
