The article studies the postage stamps issued in Chile between 1964 -1995, for which a registry of 779 stamps was carried out, in which analysis categories were established to identify the gender roles present in this source. The work hypothesizes that in the postage stamps issued in Chile between 1964 -1995, the representations and roles assigned to woman are linked to traditional roles such as mother and pillar of the family. In addition, the Catholic influence is makes present through the image of examples of virtue such as the Virgin Mary, saints an blesses women. This occurs throughout the period, regardless of the ideology of the government in power. Accordingly,the general objective is to investigate the gender roles assigned to women in representations and text of the postage stamps. As there few studies that address the issue with this source, the study is qualitative, exploratory, and descriptive.
