In the last years Chile has experimented an impulse in the use of mass timber in the construction industry mainly through research, development, and innovation. However, the myths that society has in relation to the use of timber in the housing building are well known. This study explored the Chilean perceptions on the use of mass timber in the construction industry to clarify myths and generate actions promoting the use of this material. The methodology is based on an on-line survey on a population older than 18 years of age. The results show, that in a national level, gender, age range and macro region level, the most relevant positive attributes are related to aesthetics, sustainability and seismic performance; whereas, the most prominent negative attributes are related to fire risks and susceptibility to pathogens and moisture.
