The paper presents a conception of the abandonment of a criminal attempt, grounded upon a norm-theoretical model that sustains the general characterization of criminal attempts as "imperfect offenses". Upon the finding of abandonment's "bidimensionality", an explanation of the necessity of differentiating its consummation-relatedness, on the one side, and its attempt-relatedness, on the other, is offered. This enables the outline of an account of an attempt's abandonment, which departs from its understanding as a "modification" of the criminal deed and rather identifies it with a "revision" of the given (imperfect) norm-violation. The thus deployed analysis leads to a systematical categorization of abandonment as a negative condition of the (mere) liability-grounding significance of the corresponding attempt.
