This article examines the historical trajectory of Chilean mutualism using a historiographical approach. In addition, to support this objective, research on Latin America and Europe is reviewed. The investigation includes both the so-called "golden age", 1853-1924, and the period generally considered as one of decadence (1925-1990). The analysis stops at this last date due to the almost absolute lack of studies of subsequent decades. The evaluation is done through critical analysis and research proposals.
