The appearance of suburbs of upper socioeconomic stratum in Santiago suggests a dispersion of this group and a loss of importance of the upper neighborhood, which has been its historical habitat. However, the upper neighborhood has maintained its demographic and real estate dynamism, both vertically and horizontally. Given that migration is decisive in this process, this article investigates its role in the location and redistribution of Santiago's socioeconomic strata in detail and rigor. To this end, microdata from the last four official censuses in Chile are used. It is concluded that the territorial dispersion of the upper socioeconomic stratum does not reduce the attractiveness of the upper neighborhood for this group and that, more than deconcentration, this diffusion could lead to an expansion of the geographical scale of the upper neighborhood, due to its contiguity with the new suburbs of upper socioeconomic stratum.
