Since 1997, law rules nursing in Chile. Book V, Article 113 subsection IV of the Sanitary Code define and regulate nursing services connected to its social function. Certain determined acts are reserved exclusively for professional nurses, setting up the specificity of the profession and its scope of action. In order to know the nature, meaning and scope of this professional regulation it will be first checked the concept of a profession in general and then focus on nursing as a profession, in special, "care management", concluding with some finals considerations.
