This article examines the journalistic strategies deployed by the Communist Party of Chile through the construction of a cartography of its press system between 1930 and 1970. From the analysis of the evolution of the communist press system, we argue that the party was able to confront the political and sociocultural changes of the period successfully, positioning itself in the public sphere and influencing public opinion, despite the hostility it faced. In this sense, this study challenges the views that tend to view the political press as a device designed only for the militants and, in turn, shows the role of the media in politics, that is, the political game; it does so from a longterm perspective, which becomes necessary to understand the socialization of the communist ideology, its party significance, and its impact on the Chilean popular movement. In addition to being a contribution to the history of the left, this article contributes to communications studies to the extent that it distances itself from the linear scheme that tends to make the political press invisible in terms of the hegemony of the modern massive press.
