This paper presents a study of the single-word reading comprehension of a patient with the non-fluent variant of primary progressive aphasia and concomitant reading disorders. Three experiments were conducted to assess visual word recognition, single-word reading, and auditory comprehension in which the frequency (high, low) and grammatical category of the words (nouns, verbs) were controlled. Reading efficiency was assessed by varying the time of exposure to the words (100 ms, unlimited time). Disorders of reading were confirmed, and it was empirically demonstrated that the patient presented reading comprehension disorders directly related to efficiency. Reading impairments consisted of slowness in access to orthographic forms (mainly for verbs) and difficulties in the inhibition of items orthographically similar to the target word.
