This article presents a study on the hegemony category to expand and update its conceptualization. The text is divided into three parts: the first one proposes a location of this category within the framework of the concept of power in order to study the established order and its relations of force; the second one, the concept of common sense and its fundamental elements in the configuration of social consensus are analyzed; the third one, some principles are postulated to analyze the configuration of the sectors of society and their internal and external relations in the struggle for hegemony.
