Hypertension affects between 5 and 10% of pregnancies. Its prevalence has been increasing due to the increase in cardiometabolic diseases in women of childbearing age. It is the second cause of maternal mortality and an important factor of maternal and fetal morbidity, making it a topic of great relevance in maternal-fetal medicine. The following review of the literature will address the classification of hypertensive disorders, new strategies for prediction, prevention of preeclampsia, and management of this pathology based on the best available evidence.
