To inhabit a virtual world parallel to ours has been the subject of works of fiction and the interest of various digital platforms since the massification of the Internet. The recent acceleration and expansion of online visualization, connection and transaction technologies has paved the way for the world's most powerful technology companies to direct their resources into designing these digital environments. This essay explores the aesthetics, conflicts, and absences of architectural production on these virtual platforms, both in their eagerness to create digital worlds, as well as in their intention to frame themselves within the cultural ecologies and paradigms of our material reality.
