This article analyses female identities that are manifested outside the domestic space, in the “public” and political space and in cultural spaces of art and entertainment, in the textual compositions of a representative qualitative sample of the satirical-political press of the Sexenio Revolucionario (1868-1874): the republican newspapers El Cencerro (Córdoba/Madrid, 1869-1874) and Gil Blas (Madrid, 1868-1870); the “neutral” El Garbanzo (Madrid, 1872-1873) and carlist and catholic El Papelito (1868-1871); a journalistic group of great public reception that includes different political positions. The conclusions of the study allow us to observe how the satirical-political press of the Sexennium allows the appearance of normative overflows, new forms and notions of femininity, in a very relevant period within the process of construction of female identities in Spain in the second half of the 19th century.
