This article reviews the history of meteorological observations in Chilean North Patagonia, paying attention to the case of the “Juan Kalt Bode” meteorological station, which has uninterrupted records from 1935 to the present. The work proposes that meteorological science in this southern space arises and develops between the 19th and 20th centuries in the context of the expansion of the Nation-State and the paradigm of modernization, with Germanic immigrants playing a leading role, while the “Juan Kalt Bode”station is driven by Chilean-German transnational actors, due to the needs of this regional elite to modernize their agricultural activity. The study begins by bringing background information related to meteorological records in this area during the 19th and 20th centuries, and then examines the activity of this Patagonian observatory considering its trajectory and the data it has provided during 70 years. The primary sources used come mainly from the “Juan Kalt Bode” observatory and state agencies, complemented with secondary sources, while from the theoretical-methodological point of view this study is based on a transnational observation perspective. Thus, it intends to contribute to the knowledge about the history of climate information sources in this part of the world.
