Kierkegaard's contact with the concept of toleration is conditioned by the modern use of the term. This notion arrived in Denmark through N. F. S. Grundtvig, one of the main figures in Kierkegaard's intellectual context. Kierkegaard takes distance from Grundtvig's indifferentist toleration, but at the same time, he rejects a violent and coercive form of intolerance. In this framework, this paper aims to adumbrate the role that toleration plays in Kierkegaard's Christian thought and the contribution that it might entail to revise intersubjective and social relationships.
