This article examines the case of Luisa Lynch's Asian collecting- currently the Asian Collection in the National Museum from Fine Arts in Chile-according to the formation rules that define the practice of collecting and outside of conventional analysis associated with the museum. It argues that the collecting of Asian art in Chile cannot be conceptualized like a museum collection. On the one hand, the paper reveals the characteristics and limitations of museality, that is and perspective of the museum and the rules that shape it, for the study of the Lynch collection. On the other hand, it offers a new approach based on principles that emerge from Lynch's collecting phenomenon: the liberal attitude and its installation conditions.
