Founded at the Instituto de Letras of the Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile in 1971, the Translation Program is celebrating its 50th anniversary of training translators. Therefore, the purpose of this article is to present the historical evolution and the main milestones that the career has undergone in these five decades. Firstly, we present the curricular changes that have been implemented during this period, which respond to the advances in theoretical and applied research in translatology and teletranslation, and to the needs of the translation mar- ket in our country. Secondly, we pay attention to those initiatives that have made it possible to nurture and optimize the training of translators, among others, the activities of further training and internationalization, of research and publications, of public commitment and ac- ademic collaboration within the framework of agreements, and of extension and community relations. Finally, we outline a reflection on the consolidation of strengths and present some challenges that will allow to continue optimizing the training of translators in our country.
