Due to production trends that flood markets aimed at generating economic benefits, stimulating consumption and generating waste, companies are challenged to design sustainable Product Lifecycle PLC, to satisfy consumers, creating economic benefits while reducing environmental footprint and social inequality. However, the methods for sustainable products development, have not been clearly established; hence, this paper proposes a heuristic of 15 guidelines and checklists throughout the PLC; based on the Eco-Design "10 golden rules" and complemented by 5 guidelines for Economic Growth and Social Equity, to be deployed in SMEs. Although this heuristic has not been systematically validated, there have been positive cases of deployment by industrial design students, in Colombian SMEs. Overall, it evidenced first, that the 15 guidelines might be suitable for deployment in SMEs, since they not always have the resources to become certified in complex international standards. Second, being general guidelines, they can be customized according to the productive context. Third, for a more widespread development of sustainable products, there must be profound changes in productive responsibility legislation, the SMEs capabilities and the demand for sustainable products.
