This article aims to briefly display the main instruments for research funding currently available in Chile, by the two leading agencies with this mandate: the National Commission for Scientific and Technological Research (CONICYT) and the Millennium Science Initiative (MSI). This review is done by addressing the main characteristics of the instruments, such as: orientation, recurrence, amounts, length, selection rates, among others; and also the evaluations that these instruments have received in the past ten years, as well as the changes that they have developed by addressing the recommendations of the assessments. The final result shows that the level of maturity of the instruments have fostered the Chilean scientific and technological progress, but the lack of budget have stopped the development of new funding lines and the real growth of the current initiatives.
