This article aims to contribute to rethinking higher education training by placing two fundamental notions at the center: transversality and transdisciplinarity. Both concepts are strongly related to the growing complexity of societies, accentuated by the health and social pandemic that humanity is experiencing. Late in the 21st century, higher education institutions are challenged to accept both notions and to reposition the importance of values training as a key to navigate in times of uncertainty. Assuming this perspective, the article provides background information about the process of incorporating transversality at the Metropolitan University of Education Sciences (UMCE), a process that seeks to provide innovative pedagogical responses, based on ethical principles and values that contribute to comprehensive training, by strengthening of citizenship and the construction of more humane societies in which all people live in dignity and rights.
