This paper analyzes the two main publications by Afro-Arican authors-Lumbanga. Memorias orales de la cultura afrochilena Lumbanga. Oral memories of the Afro-Chilean culture, by Cristian Baez (2010), and Afrochilenos. Una historia oculta [Afro-Chileans. A hidden history], by Marta Salgado (2013)-in their quality as political interventions aimed at expressing their author's positionings in the Chilean intellectual field and, in particular, in front of the politics of Chilean multiculturalism, of the forms of recognition that become possible in this context and of the racisms that reproduce themselves therein. For that purpose, the appearance of Afro-descendant authors in the Latin American intellectual field, the importance of generating new historical narratives "from within" in the framework of the Latin American Afro-descendants social movement, as well as the multicultural policies put into practice since the 1990's are introduced. Finally, the texts themselves are analized, and the paper concludes with a reflection on the ways in which these texts situate themselves in the Chilean political and intellectual fields.
