The quality of the hybrid sexual potato seed (SSP) (Solanum tuberosum L.) of five progenies used in food production for human consumption was evaluated. Different seed quality indicator parameters were used to evaluate the grade of these hybrid SSP progenies: a) viability, b) germination at 20 ºC, c) germination at 27º C/40 ºC, d) mean germination time, and e) germination speed. The hypothesis was that four of these SSP hybrid progenies (MF I x TPS 13; MF II x TPS 67; Atzimba x 7XY.1; and LT-8 x Yagana) stored for seven years differed from each other in seed quality and also from the control hybrid progeny (Serrana x LT-7) that was stored for 18 years. The five SSP hybrid progenies varied in their quality according to the parameter evaluated and the temperature condition used. Under stress conditions (27 ºC/40 ºC), three progenies appear to be superior: Atzimba x 7XY.1, LT-8 x Yagana and MF-I x TPS-13. However, all the hybrid progenies evaluated in this study show that their quality is sufficient to be used in field conditions for food production in any environment, including the tropical conditions of Haiti.
