The following work investigates the ripe moment of the Colombian armed conflict with the guerrilla of the Revolutionary Armed Forces - People's Army (FARC-EP). A wide academic literature is used, problematizing what is meant by the ripe moment of a conflict, and its importance to internalize a negotiated overcoming of it and an abandonment of violence. The above-mentioned, based on official figures of the Colombian armed conflict, provided for this work by the Observatory of Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law (ODHDIH) of the Presidency of the Republic, and according to various testimonies collected in in-depth interviews with actors involved in the internal conflict, both of the guerrilla and the Government. With this, it seeks to offer elements from which to understand why the negotiation process started in Havana between 2012 and 2016; a process which, thanks in part to that ripe moment, proved successful. Likewise, this experience is contrasted with that of the previous failed Caguan process, which took place between 1999 and 2002. This, to emphasize the importance of the ripe moment so that an armed conflict can initiate a peace dialogue with the hope of its deactivation.
