In this paper, a Cascaded Predictive Current Controller (CPCC) with a piecewise control approach for induction machine drives is proposed. Owing to the unlimited bandwidth of the inner current loop, the proposed control strategy has the merits of fast dynamic response and very simple implementation. To tackle the penalty coefficient issue, the objective functions are optimized in a cascaded structure. More specifically, the select voltage vectors (VV) are carried out according to an adaptable piecewise approach, to decrease the torque ripple and current total harmonic distortion. The proposed scheme is validated on a lab-constructed 2.2 kW induction machine platform with a 1.4 GHz real-time system (RTS). The experimental results confirm that the proposed method performs well at both the steady-state and transient-state.
