The social outbreak of October 18th, 2019 in Chile was preceded by an increasing politicization of that society since the early 2000s. This article explores the way in which indie musicians, who are often considered to not be particularly committed to public affairs, are articulated with their environment. Through Textual Analysis, the themes, characteristics, and emphasis of the communication of the political in the lyrics of 95 songs written by 19 independent Chilean authors between 2005 and 2018 are recognized and examined. We argue that, through different content, they noted the demands of the outbreak more than a decade early, highlighting a generational link with youth who were beginning to mobilize different causes.
