A reading strategy of Augustine of Hippo is presented, which posits the center of his theoretical practice in the notion of sermo, based on the analysis of sermons 9,174 and 175 of the bishop, as well as some other passages of his vast work. The interpretation of Augustine cannot subsist without its historicity since it is a work of the human Word. Therefore there will be a reference to two important moments of the discussion around the historical significance of the work of Hippo's rhetor. First, we briefly present the discussion between Carl Schmitt and Jacob Taubes about political theology and their strangely coincidental judgment on Augustine. Subsequently we refer the critique of Bruno Bosteels and Oscar Ariel Cabezas to Augustine centered both on Leon Rozitchner and a possible response to it from the notion of perjury as the center of Derrida's Circonfession. The target: reading Augustine, ?in hislour own way?
