The objective of this study is to analyze the challenges that the recent trend of recentralization imposes to Mexican local governments to consolidate the innovations achieved as a result of the decentralization process initiated in the eighties of the last century. This work has identified the existence of different paths of diffusion of innovations in public policy between municipalities of Mexico and shows that innovation is transferred to different parts of the country and at different times in the past twelve years, also it was found that this innovations persist in time. Nevertheless the argument of this paper recognizes that progress in innovation in municipal public policy are at risk due to recentralizing actions taken during recent years in the country.
