The current characteristics of the wine sector in the Qualified Apellation of Origin Rioja (DOCa Rioja) are the result of an evolution in which each of the factors that determine at any time the economic performance of the sector have shaped themselves: production space, determining factors of production and growth, product, economic agents, market and institutional framework. In this article, divided for its publication into two parts, it discussed how the Rioja wine sector has become as it is now (part I, published in RIVAR Vol. 2, No 5, mayo 2015, pp. 40-63) considering the historical evolution (part II) of each of these factors.
