This article analyses the objects in the index from Razon de las especies de naturaleza y de arte del obispado de Trujillo (Archbishop Trujillo's index of natural and art objects) written by the Navarre Archbishop Baltasar Jaime Martinez Companon (1737-1797) in 1788. Departing from 24 crates containing diverse objects and send from Trujillo (Peru) to Madrid, we propose an analysis of the nomenclatures and the arbitrary nature of the index's organization and representation of the objects. Furthermore, this article seeks to link the epistemological politics proposed by the Iberian Monarchy, which also articulated the concepts of recoger, encajonar, remitir (collect, crate, send), to the bishop life and duties. An analysis of the descriptive and empirical nature of the ecclesiastical visit to Trujillo's diocese is proposed.
