The Adegas do Vino do Pais are local cellars from Betanzos (northwest of Galicia, Spain) in which it is allowed to sell the surplus of the annual wine production by its producers. These places, whose origins date back to the medieval period, are part of the tradition and culture of contemporary wine in the area, where people come to taste the wine of the year and bring food to share. Despite the historical, cultural and heritage relevance of these spaces, they are currently at risk of disappearing. The present study analyses, with ethnographic perspective and sociological approach, and in line with the critical studies of heritage, the sociocultural factors that place this tradition on the brink of disappearance. The results show a unique wine-growing culture and, therefore, an opportunity to promote its continuity through its differentiation, that is, the adaptation of this tradition to modernity based on the study of the tradition of Adegas do Vino do Pais.
