This paper is divided in two parts plus the conclusion. In the first part it examines the notion of subjective right or dominium which Vitoria uses in his commentary to q. 62 of Thomas Aquinas Summa Theologiae's Secunda secundae. The paper applies a set of criteria in order to establish whether Vitoria's notion of right is a nominalist notion or not. In the second part, the paper examines in particular the notion of political dominium with the same goal. The conclusion is that Vitoria's notion of dominium is not nominalist.
