This historical study based on the analysis and interpretation of official and journalistic documents, aims to examine the local and national motivations that the Chilean Government had to install a Navy Station in the city of Punta Arenas, and analyze the importance of its operation during the first five years 1896-1903. Through an exhaustive documentary review, an attempt will be made to reconstruct the creation and operation of this body dependent on the National Navy, delving into both the difficulties they faced and the significant contributions and progress achieved in the region and country, among which stand out the scientific knowledge of the territory, the promotion of naval activity, the improvement of communications, the strengthening of Chile's sovereignty and consolidation in the Southern Territory.
