This article analyses the connections between the emergence of the environmental problem in the Global North and the spreading and application of its ideas and practices in Chile. The investigation examines the contentious action repertoires of the environmental movements that rose against mayor hydroelectric projects in the south of Chile, specifically on the Biobio River. This research suggests that the ways of articulating the resistance against the hydroelectric plants of Pangue and Ralco during the 90's and 2000's is linked to global transformations around the ideas and practices associated with caring for the environment The methodology used is based on the theory of the new social movements and the analysis of the Chilean press in the 90s, to account for the media impact of the study cases. The starting point of this research will be the Stockholm Declaration of 1972, considering the Rio Declaration of 1992 and the configuration of a transnational network of environmental defense. Finally, we will present the main results of the research, highlighting the existing links between the associative strategies of the Global North and Chile.
